Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong came out in May. The front and back of the game's box say that you can upgrade from the PS4 version to the PS5 version for free, but you cannot.

We think that vampires get a bit of a bad rap. Because of a few bad apples like Dracula and Kristen Stewart, we tend to think of vampires as evil creatures of the night. However, there are also many fun vampires. For example, Count Duckula and the Sesame Street one that goes "Ah-ah-ah!" Anyway, we are trying to say that we need to stop acting like everyone with fangs and a cape will bite us. It is a false idea, and it can hurt a lot.
Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong is an interesting take on vampire fiction because it does not make vampires look bad. If anything, it is the religious Christians who look bad. In this story-heavy adventure game, you play three real-life blood-drinking vampires trying to figure out their dangerous political situation in a secret Boston society of supernatural beings.
The story is mainly about plots, betrayals, coups d'état, and a threat to vampire life as we know it. The Vampire: The Masquerade tabletop role-playing game is severe and may be overly dry, but it has much exciting lore to learn. The vampires we play as are all different. The one who used to be a stripper and now owns a nightclub is boring, but the one who just got out of a vampire mental hospital is fun. Most of the time, the game (Vampire: The Masquerade) story is pretty interesting.
The biggest problem with Swansong is that sometimes it is not as straightforward as it could be about what you are supposed to be doing or how to get around specific problems. You will have to try different things out in Vampire: The Masquerade and see what works. There are also some technical problems. For example, we spent a long time figuring out how to solve a puzzle, but when we restarted the game, we saw that the answer had been there all along. Not awesome.
Reddit user Unfallener told other potential customers about the problem and shared the answer they got from the customer service team at publisher Nacon. Part of the email says, "We want to let you know that the game's creators have confirmed that if you bought the PS4 version, you can't update it to the PS5 version. Swansong is not a cross-gen product, which is a shame. It's a mistake if it says so on the box."
Honestly, it is surprising that no one has noticed this before now. It could say a lot about how popular the game is or what kinds of games people like to buy in stores. Still, the box says twice that a PS5 upgrade is available for the game, so the buyer should be able to get this service. Anything less feels like false advertising.
It looks like Unfallener has filed a complaint with the FTC. We do not think the situation will go all the way to court. Instead, the publisher is probably going to think about giving PS5 codes to users who were affected or doing something else similar.
We liked Vampire: The Masquerades - Swansong because of its exciting story and political manoeuvrings, but we did not like that it had some puzzles that did not need to be there. Our full thoughts on the matter can be found in our review.
